A few months after working with our new telco engineer, he as well as my CIO(boss) kept teasing me about my gadget addiction and addiction to any news about the same, as well as my apparent ability to find stuff on the net (I give google credit for that). Coming across information to make the most out of devices, services, software etc. Some may call it hacking but I like to keep it on the legal side of things and that term has been stereotyped by the media to the point that I rather not use it in my first post on here.
When ever there was a question coming up in a meeting or over lunch, they always came back with: "Did you check torbenlange.com for the answer?" "Did you see the latest about <enter gadget name> on torbenlange.com yet?"
I owned the domain for a while but never did anything with it. As a joke I threw up a single page one day about some topic that came up. Ever since then the torbenlange.com comments by my coworkers went through the roof, half the IT department has dropped some comment along the lines.
When I came across the Lifehacker.com poll about the best standalone blog application I figured I would try and actually start a blog about the stuff that keeps my interests and what I come across during my day slaving at work.
Did I listen to the poll, no not at all. While the advise was solid, I wanted something that I could get up and running over my lunch break and required no additional software installs.
I have had a windows server at home for years, hosting some random stuff for posting on message boards or sharing pictures with friends and relatives.
So I went looking for a blogging app that ran on IIS and didn't require a database. I ended up with dasblog.
It is free and it installed over my lunch hour. Perfect for me to start with. We shall see how it holds up.
The reference to the German movie Das Boot probably helped to convince me to try it.
So here we are....
I am sure there will be plenty of changes coming across here while it get more cozy with the app, so be patient.
ps. if there are any technical issues please let me know and I will try and fix them.
